I prayed for this

Prayed for 43 times.

Elissa and William

Last week, our two month son Ambrose Lee Bayless started getting increasingly sleepy and weak and eventually went into respiratory failure. He almost died at the hospital in Lander before they were able to get him on a ventilator and fly him to the PICU in Billings.

For days we had no idea what was wrong. He was almost completely unresponsive and barely moving, and we were terrified he had a serious brain injury. After a pivotally conclusive MRI, EEG, and brain imaging, neurological damage was reasonably ruled out, which gave us hope for a diagnosis that wasn’t terminal. The storm seemed to calm and we had a profound sense of peace.

With the help of some of his nursing staff, we pushed to have him transferred to Primary Children’s in Utah, where they believe he has infant botulism, a very rare illness caused by organic bacteria that causes progressive weakness and paralysis, including the ability to breathe.

He quickly received the treatment, BabyBIG, an antitoxin that flushes the toxins from his body, and now we are waiting for his nerves to heal. He’s still on the ventilator and very weak, but he’s starting to move his fingers and toes a little more and the doctors are encouraged. Ambrose still has a long road ahead with expected weeks to months of healing, but he should make a full recovery. We finally have an answer and so much more hope. We are praising God for getting him through this and for every little sign of improvement, this child is a fighter.

We have seen the power of prayer in effect this week, and know that there are so many of you praying for the healing and recovery of our sweet Ambrose. We prayed earnestly for our great and powerful God to heal our son, if it was His will. We trusted God that should He bring the worst outcomes, we could rest in His promises to hold and protect us and Ambrose. His hand of protection has been over Ambrose through two traumatic moments of coming within a breath of death.

At the darkest time in our lives we were comforted to know that the body of Christ was interceding for our family and son, and when fear surrounded us, we had the strength to keep going.

Thank you for praying for our sweet Ambrose, please fervently continue as he is not yet out of the woods and has a long recovery ahead. Please also join us in praising our loving Father for His hand of mercy and moving hearts through Ambrose.

“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.”
